When does your doll shelf feel full?

I started collecting early this year with a Madame Alexander Clara and now I'm up to 7 dolls, including a few MGA Rainbow High girls and 1 custom head from a local artist. My boyfriend says I should slow down but I keep finding new releases that feel too special to pass up. I don't have a set number in mind and I'm not ready to part with any of them. I'm wondering if anyone here has a personal rule or limit they stick to. Is it more about space, time or something else?

I always say that collecting should stay joyful, not stressful!. So I started with a vintage Barbie from my aunt and told myself "just one shelf." Now I've got three! For me, it's more about display space. if I can style them well and enjoy looking at them, then it's good. When they start feeling crammed or hidden, that's my cue to pause.

If a doll brings you joy and feels special, that's all that matters. You're not just buying dolls, you're creating a collection that shows who you are, not just following fads.

I'm still early in and I've been grabbing dolls that catch my eye but I'm starting to see how having a theme could help me feel more settled with the shelf. I hadn't thought about how stress can creep in if I'm chasing every release, so I'll try to keep it fun like @zombiechick3n said. For those who built around a theme, did you plan it from the start or figure it out after collecting for a while?
