What sports do you genuinely enjoy watching or playing?

And you could spend minutes on end talking about, let's hear it for you favs

I'd have to say my favorite sport is competitive ice skating. And making costumes for the practice and competitions.

I've been very involved in ice skating for about 8 years. Oldest daughter was an ice dancer. And we did the before- and after-school practices. I made many of her practice dresses and some of the competition outfits. This was in this ISA and the USFSA. Back in the days of 6.0 being the perfect score.

And in 1997 I was a volunteer at the National Competition in Nashville. And I was the one that was backstage to get the winners to the ice for their metals. One skater, Nicole Bobeck, was in her sweats as she didn't expect to medal. So she had to jump back into her competition outfit really quickly. That was the year Tara Lapenski won.

On year I had 3 SpringHill dolls dressed exactly like the 3 main 'dolls' in the Nutcracker ballet.

You've had such an experience, Ice skating is always something I would see and wish I had taken part, i love the grace of gliding on the ice

Although, I took an interest in volley ball at college and I've just liked it ever since then

I'm very impressed @Mary are you still involved with skating at all, or has it shifted more toward the doll/costume side of things these days?

 

[Mary]

I have not been to the ice rink for a few years. I was volunteer co-ordinator for shows and competitions and made some costumes. So, if I get close to the ice rink I may end up volunteered for something.

When the ice rink did "Nutcracker on Ice" I made a new ice rink stage curtain = that took two months with a helper to help me move the curtain around as I made it. It was 150 yards of 60" wide fabric.

And since this is a doll forum.

The 3 dolls made to reflect the skaters that will be the alive dolls in act 2.
I think my purple one is my favorite of the three. The dolls are SpringHill dolls that are AG doll size but only cost about $20 back then.

The fabrics for the costumes are from the scraps from the costumes the actual ice skaters used.

Yeah, i love the purple one too, I heard about this AG dolls, but I'd never really put looks to it, now I know what an AG dolls looks like.
Do you miss the skating world at all, or are you good with keeping that chapter closed? because it sure sounds like you put in serious time with the coordination and costume work.
