Experiences and tips on bad habits with collecting?

Hello everyone! I'm new here and I am just starting to build my collection. And now that I'm getting a bit more serious, I was hoping you could all share some of your bad habits with collecting in the hopes I can break mine!

The biggest one for me so far has to be impulse buying. I'll see a super cute doll on Instagram and just have to have it, even if I don't really have a plan for it. I've already ended up with a few dolls that don't quite fit with the others, and I'm sure it's only going to get worse if I don't get a handle on it now. I'm also finding that I'm getting overwhelmed with all the accessories. I want all the things like clothes, eyes, wigs so I get them and I'm not really sure what to do with them all. To be honest, it feels like borderline hoarding!

If anyone here can share some of your collecting habits you've had to break or wish you could? Is there anything you wish you had done differently when you started? I'd love to hear your wisdom before I get too deep and any advice so I can break my impulse buying. I appreciate hearing from you. Thanks a lot!

I totally understand, those impulse purchases can really add up quickly. I've begun keeping track of what I actually use, and I set a little rule for myself, no new dolls unless I've styled or taken photos of the last one. It definitely helps reduce clutter and keeps my collection more intentional.

Impulse buying gets most of us early on but I can recommend setting a wishlist rule
And it goes like this: if something still excites me after a few weeks, then I buy it. Also, focusing on one doll at a time cuts down on accessories piling up
