Starting this thread to know what keeps collectors hooked or turns you off. I’m not talking about the “it’s a difficult hobby but rewarding” angle, but more of personal likes and dislikes that make the experience what it is for you. Maybe it’s the incredible customization options and balance between realism and fantasy or maybe it’s the cost, fragility, or the upkeep that wears thin over time. So yes, lets start the rants and keep em going

For me it’s the thrill of finding unique pieces and the creativity in customizing them that keeps me hooked. The downside is definitely the space they take up and how fragile some can be, sheesh!

I like finding rare pieces, good deals, or stuff you didn't know existed really but then the prices creeping up every year while QC gets sloppier. Exclusives and artificial scarcity too and dust... so much dust

For me, it’s the craftsmanship that keeps me hooked, when a piece nails the detail, it’s hard to walk away but my biggest turn off is dusting and then fragile parts, nothing kills the mood faster than when I notice something breaks or a chipped paint
