Repainting this vintage doll?

The sentimental value is huge because my grandmother loved this doll, and I'd really like to display it properly instead of keeping it packed away but the face paint has seriously deteriorated, lots of flaking and fading, especially around the eyes and mouth, I found some artists who do repainting work, but then I started reading about how repainting destroys collector value and you should never alter original pieces.
Here's the thing though, this isn't a very rare doll or anything, from what I can tell it's a mid range German manufacturer and honestly, the current condition makes it kind of sad to look at rather than beautiful. I'm not planning to sell it ever, so does collector value even matter?

Get it repainted by a good artist, a mid range doll with sentimental value that's too sad looking to display is exactly when restoration makes sense in my opinion

If you don't want to sell it, then it doesn't matter if the value is less or not. it's best to repair and repaint it if you want to display the doll
